Asset Searches
After a couple divorced, a local court found that the mother of the three children was responsible for the support of the children. Even though physical custody was split between both parents, the father was designated the primary caregiver. When the ex-wife became unemployed, she petitioned the court to release her from the support obligations. The husband’s attorney hired us to see if we could locate any assets that the ex-wife might not have disclosed or tried to conceal. Within a week our research team was able to uncover a substantial sum (over $400,000) in a bank account in another state. Background Checks
A local attorney requested our assistance when a long-term and highly respected business came to him with a problem concerning their senior staff. The company was involved in a highly technical field that required the senior staff to meet very high educational standards. They were often asked to provide consulting services for state and federal governments in a technical area that demanded reliability and precision, they only hired people with a PhD level education. Most of the staff had several degrees, presented at technical seminars and published technical articles in their areas of expertise. The owners became suspicious of someone they had hired at the most senior level when they received an anonymous tip that the man was an imposter and actually had no advanced education. Our investigation was able to uncover that there was no record that he had ever attended any of the five colleges he claimed to have attended, having earned no college degree at all and that he had not actually participated in the advanced training programs that his resume indicated. He hadn’t even lived in the areas where he allegedly attended school. Although he had published several articles and had presented at several seminars, his academic resume was completely false. When approached by his employer, he quietly exited the room, picked up his possessions from his office and walked out the door, never to be heard from again. Class Action
Our client was representing a company accused of exposing employees to cancer causing elements. Hired to track down possible witnesses and obtain statements from them, we located at least 11 witnesses, obtained statements from them and also conducted hours of research on the company and its background in the local area. It appeared that some of the claims represented by the plaintiff were disproven by our investigation. According to the attorneys representing the ultimate client our research led to a significantly reduced settlement on the case. Result: a settlement much lower than initially demanded. Crime Scene Investigations
An out-of-state attorney needed us to help find an unnamed witness that had been incarcerated in a local jail. All she knew is that this witness had been incarcerated sometime during an 8 month period and that the witness might have been incarcerated in the same area of the jail and a certain inmate. Because we didn’t know the name of the witness we were looking for, we had to enlist some of our resources to identify all the prisoners in the jail during that time-frame and then go through that list to find all the inmates in the jail. Unfortunately, the allegations we were looking into were against one of the jail employees, so we couldn’t disclose where or who we were looking for without compromising our case. Insurance Investigations
Attorneys who represent insurance companies often hire private investigators to search out information. In a recent case, we were asked to find an individual who was a witness to an accident and once found, interview them. In a rural county in northern Arkansas we searched out and found four witnesses that had seen the accident. Although they “didn’t want to get involved”, they did provide sworn statements that enabled our client to present facts to the insurance company that resulted in a favorable finding for the company. Intellectual Property
A company in Arkansas took over a restaurant after the former owner vacated the premises. The new owners created a name similar to the former restaurant and even continued using napkins with the original logos on them. The new menus contained trademarked names of meals and looked remarkably similar to the original menus. Our undercover visit to the restaurant resulted in obtaining samples of the copyrighted designs as well as an employee admitting that they had a ‘stash’ of the previous owners logo marked property in a back room. Jury Consulting
Engaged to provide a legal firm with pre-trial guidance of our perception of the impression that their client would make on a jury, we were able to provide them with details about their client’s past and to also let them know that the shoes their client was wearing would not be a good idea for the jury to see. Wearing spiked heels and suffering from a severe back injury might not lead to a winning strategy. Result: the client decided to drop their claim. Laboratory Testing
Our client came to us hoping that we could find out who the father was of the child that his wife just had. He had recently found that his wife had been having an adulterous affair and that she had been with several men since they were married 8 months previously. She had even told him that she didn’t think he was the father. We were able to work with the local court to issue an order for a DNA sample to be obtained from the newborn child. We arranged for the sample and the analysis within a week. The result: our client now knows that the child is his and he’s seeking full custody. Interviews
In 1999, a man was arrested in CA and police found the wallet and identification of another individual in his possession. This other person had been robbed and the wallet taken during the robbery. Even though this was a relatively minor crime, the man was a career criminal and was given a life sentence. Later an individual imprisoned in Arkansas ‘admitted’ he had been the one who had committed the robbery and not the man in California. We interviewed the Arkansas inmate along with the attorney from the Northern California Innocence Project, however we could not completely confirm or validate the stories. An unannounced search of the prisoner’s cell revealed a letter written between the prisoners where they had colluded and created their false ‘story’ and also proving a great number of details about the false claims. Litigation Preparation
Our client was charged with four counts of a sex crime and wanted an advocate to help him appeal the sentence. Locating and referring him to a qualified attorney, we were ultimately able to find exculpatory evidence and led to an ongoing appeal process. Several motions and writs have been presented and several are still ongoing. Our services included surveillance of the ‘victims’ , conducting background investigations, interviewing witnesses, testifying at hearings, and providing other services so that his attorney could have factual evidence to work with. Political Investigations
Hired by a prominent and nationally recognized politician, we were asked to gather information about the personal habits of an adversary. Reenactments
When our client was arrested for two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, we went to work. Even though the police report was poorly written, we were able to glean enough information to determine even a rudimentary investigation would have demonstrated his innocence. We took the client back to the scene and conducted a very detailed reenactment using a firearm and then another reenactment using another object (a small notebook). When the victim viewed the photographs of the reenactment he admitted he could not positively say that the client used a handgun. Result: the charges were dismissed. Process Service
Hired by an out-of-state attorney, we were tasked with locating and serving an individual who was actively avoiding service. The individual was being sued for over $70 million and the client needed action, fast! The client had hired at least 2 process servers who were not successful. When the deadline for court was rapidly approaching, they hired us. When we found out that this person was going to get on a plane and fly out of the country that afternoon, we became proactive. We were able to locate the individual and get a personal appointment with him (yes, we were deceptive). The result: a successful serve and a very happy client. Skip Tracing & Finding People
We were retained by an out-of-state client to search for and locate a former resident of Texas who had moved into Arkansas and changed her name. Several false leads resulted in a lot of hours and miles, but no result until we took a different approach to our search when we realized some of the information provided by the client was wrong. Finally, we located the former wife of a young man that was supposed to have filed for an annulment but hadn’t before he suddenly died. The result: she was to inherit the balance of his estate. Trademark
Our attorney-client was representing a client that had registered a trademark many years ago. We were asked to conduct searches of the local court and newspapers as well as to locate and interview possible witnesses in an effort to identify when the violator had first started using the trademark.
